About Calgary Rakushinkan
From Classical Swordsmanship to Modern Aikido
Modern Aikido. Classical Roots. Lifelong Practice.
Calgary Rakushinkan offers Aikido and traditional Japanese martial arts instruction in Calgary for adults, teens, and children. Classes are held at the Mount Pleasant Community Association and Winston Heights-Mountview Community Association, serving students from across Calgary.
Our practice is rooted in Aikido while drawing inspiration from older Japanese martial traditions, including classical swordsmanship and aiki-based arts. Students develop balance, coordination, awareness, confidence, and practical movement skills through structured, cooperative training.
Whether you are completely new to martial arts or have years of experience, our welcoming group provides an opportunity to explore the principles of Japanese budo in a safe and supportive environment. Training emphasizes personal growth, mutual respect, and continuous improvement rather than competition.
